New year, New me?

I’m a developer and it’s my job to make sure things work and they keep working as intended. I read a lot of articles online about development, whats new, whats trending, but also, and if not more important, whats going to be old and outdated. I find security fascinating and always challenge myself when creating something new, or when I discover a new vulnerability or read about a hole in a package that I used in the past, I go back to it and see if it really works, why it works, and then patch it.

But security is not the only thing I find interesting, for the longest time I was very close minded and never tried to branch out. Been doing WordPress development now for over 7 years and it almost started to feel like I have done it all… from setting up websites, to making custom plugin which changed the login flow of WordPress to authenticate with a 3th party server and making sure data was synced up. Having WooCommerce products stock synced up to a register in a shop. I’ve done so much with this lovely framework and didn’t want to branch out… I was getting comfy there or, maybe I was scared to branch out? Whatever it was, Recently I had been given the opportunity to try something new, something I never dabbled in before. an Laravel API server using docker, on a windows machine… 😲 Woah! that… was something else. and got me out of my shell. Even though what we wanted to test and try out didn’t work out at all, it was an amazing experience to get my feed wet. Would love to explore more in Laravel! Maybe i will rewrite my own API server in Laravel?

2023 I started with a whole new mindset, branch out, expand, try out more things! I’ll be sure to start documenting it here, and also make what I can available on my GitHub. On my list for 2023 currently are the following things I want to improve and get better in.

  • Backend : Laravel
  • Frontend : Tailwind
